Founded in 1967 PEM sheet metal started as a marine electronics company based in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, UK. At the time Kelvin Hughes (A division of Smiths Industries) required a specialist sub contractor to service it's Marine Applications Sector.

Initially the company started servicing and repairing RADAR and SONAR devices. As our reputation grew, PEM Sheet metal moved into specialist areas of design and development. Our original name of Precision Electro Mechanisms reflected this 1960's market.

As PEM Sheet metal developed, the engineering and mechanical side of the business expanded. Projects at the time included Inclinometers and Transducer Locator Mats for the positioning of the new North Sea oil rigs. Marine electronics started as our primary service, but gradually subcontract engineering become our core business during the early 1970’s.

In 1973 PEM Sheet metal moved to a new purpose built factory in Burnham, Essex, UK. At this site the company developed into it's current form with further expansion into sheet metal work developing this as our premiere service.

In common with many suppliers in Essex PEM Sheet metal had a close relationship with the Marconi Group of companies. Many of our working practices, processes and standards owe a lot to their influence over the years. Many of our staff are Marconi trained and we are proud to continue to be a major supplier to them.

Today PEM Sheet metal is rapidly expanding again with 4 manufacturing facilities totaling over 35,000 sq ft of production space. We are ‘early adopters’ of new technologies and are currently evaluating robotic manufacturing cells. We have recently invested in an advanced laser cutting cell which allows us to cut both thin and thick (25 mm) material with great accuracy and excellent quality. We now offer subcontract laser cutting as a separate service throught our dedicated laser cutting department. Our core businesses remain Subcontract sheet metal work together with Welding and Fabrication, however we couple this with extensive knowledge of Electronics and Engineering.

Our aim into the 21st Century is not to be an engineering subcontractor - but rather to be a Supply Partner. Dedicated to Total Customer Service and to providing the highest levels of Customer Support available today.
